I have a wireless router Linksys WRT54G. My laptop IBM T20 with netgear wireless card can connect successly to the router based wep 64 bit encryption. But the other laptop Dell 510m with inherent Intel 2200bg wireless adapter could not connect to the router. This problem taked me long time but no workaround. In the end we copied the wep hex key and paste it to Dell 510m as wep key. Bingo! It works.

I  consulted the WRT54G manual and found the description “If you wish to use a WEP Passphrase, it can be a maximum of 16 alphanumeric characters. This passphrase may
not work with non-Linksys products due to possible incompatibility with other vendors’ passphrase generators.”

Is it equipment compatibility issue? I donn’t confirm it.  Maybe the hex wep key WRT54g router generates is not idenctical with windows when they have same ASCII character.
